Aidem Digital CIC, wins National Lottery support for Indian Independence project

Aidem Digital CIC, the social enterprise based at Innovation Birmingham Campus, has received £45,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for an exciting project looking at Indian Independence and the impact on communities in Birmingham. The project is titled as 'The Reality of Partition' - The Impact on Independence on Birmingham'. The partition of India in 1947 resulted in the formation of two nations, India and Pakistan. With 70 years since the independence, a special film and exhibition are being created for the project to reflect and document the real stories told by Birmingham residents who experienced the hardship, life challenges and outcomes of the partition. Led by the team of journalists from DESIblitz.com, the multi-award winning online British Asian magazine and working with volunteers from across the city, the project focuses on capturing the first-hand experiences of those who came to Birmingham owing to India’s declaration of independence. The project began in February and aims to finish in September 2017. The stories collected will be used to create a permanent film archive that will be made freely available to current and future generations via DESIblitz.com and the Library of Birmingham. Representing a range of geographies and sectors, 33 companies have been shortlisted in Ernst & Young's Midlands Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards 2015. The combined turnover of the companies is £2.4bn of annual revenue and they employ more than 24,000 people. Aidem Digital, a Birmingham based Community Interest Company (CIC) has been recognised as a leading social enterprise in this year’s RBS SE100 annual snapshot of 2014, with an incredible growth percentage of 173%. The RBS SE100 Index is an online listing of social ventures, ranked and scored according to their growth and social impact. The live market intelligence platform is designed to provide a substantial data resource for investors, commissioners and policymakers as they seek to understand the landscape of the social economy and identify top performers across the UK. In the annual data snapshot for 2014, registered social enterprises in the West Midlands show an average growth of 50% and a total combined turnover of £1.2 billion. The 2014 Annual Report by Big Society Capital, entitled Social Investment: From Ambition to Action, Annual Review 2014 featured photography by Aidem Digital CIC. Photos were featured within the report, which showed the progress of social investment throughout 2014, and how many businesses have been helped through initiatives to give finance to social enterprises. Big Society Capital is an independent financial institution in the UK with a social mission, which was set up originally to aid the growth of the social investment market throughout Britain. This social investment is centred on lending or investing money in order to achieve a social benefit in addition to a financial return. Big Society Capital sees itself as having two roles within the world of social investment. The first of these is acting as a champion for the social investment market, increasing awareness of social investment as a business plan. The second comprises of being an investor that can provide capital to social investment projects, which can often support charities and social enterprises. Aidem Digital has become a premier plus partner of the Institute of Asian Businesses (IAB). IAB is the most influential and successful group of its kind in the West Midlands. It specifically focuses on providing support for Asian businesses throughout the region, and works closely with them to offer the relevant opportunities. Indi Deol Awarded Visiting Fellowship from Aston University

Indi Deol attended the Aston University Awards and collected a Visiting Fellowship award as an alumnus of the Goldman Sachs 10, 000 Small Businesses Programme. The award was given in recognition of the contribution they have made across the university to the understanding, awareness and experience of growth in business and entrepreneurship. This awards ceremony marked the inaugural time that the members of the 10, 000 Small Businesses programme have been given recognition for their achievements. Attending were business owners from a wide range of sectors and throughout their careers have supported Aston University, its students, staff and research endeavours in activities like the KEEN and KTP projects. They also provided mentoring to MBA students through the BSEEN and SERV projects, which were social impact initiatives involving students in policy development and lobbying within the university, recruiting students to their businesses and acting as live case studies in taught modules in business courses. Indi Deol Elected onto Executive Committee of IAB

Indi Deol has been elected onto the executive committee of the Institute of Asian Businesses (IAB). The IAB is a group that is attached to the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce (BCC) and specialises in providing support for Asian businesses and business owners across the Birmingham area. The BCC has been established for over 200 years, and set up the IAB to specifically target help towards the growing Asian business community in Birmingham. Nasir Awan, president of the IAB, says of the organisation: “For many years we have helped and supported our members to grow their business, create jobs and boost the Midlands economy.” The IAB committee is an independent advisory body which was set up to represent the interests of the IAB members and the commercial development of IAB as a part of the BCC. Aidem Digital to produce Mobile App for Worcester Children’s Centres

Aidem Digital CIC has been selected to produce an interactive mobile phone App for Worcester Children's Centres. The project was commissioned by the national organisation Action for Children who are deploying services in Worcester via their Birmingham services. The mobile App will provide up-to-date information about the children's centres in the Worcestershire area. Currently, a lot of the information is in print and cannot be available to parents and children who do not have simple access to the children's centres, so the App will bridge this gap. In addition, the App shall prove information about What's on at each of the centres with an events diary and where the locations of the centres are for those who do not know. Searching by post-code and age group can provide users with the nearest centres to them that provide suitable services. The design of the App called 'Early Help' was done closely with the commissioning team from Birmingham and potential users of the App in Worcester through as series of discussions and workshops. Aidem Digital helps My Time promote the My Talk App

Aidem Digital was requested to produce a video to help My Time CIC promote its vision for a MyTalk mobile phone application to be produced for young people who suffer from issues such as bullying, sexting and other social and mental health problems. The aim of the video was to create awareness of how the My Talk App will help promote emotional well-being for young people. It features young people and My Talk project team members on how the research was established for the much needed My Talk App. The research was carried out by Salma Aktar from My Time. Salma was brought up in Sandwell in the West Midlands and has always been interested in psychology as a child and went onto study at University. She led on a research project looking at the emotional needs of young people in the district of Sandwell. Salma led a team of young people through workshops and interviewed 121 young people. The key issues discovered during the research were difficulties with teachers, relationships, body image, bullying, worry about the future, lack of jobs and problems with drugs.
