Aidem Digital CIC, wins National Lottery support for Indian Independence project

Aidem Digital CIC, the social enterprise based at Innovation Birmingham Campus, has received £45,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for an exciting project looking at Indian Independence and the impact on communities in Birmingham. The project is titled as 'The Reality of Partition' - The Impact on Independence on Birmingham'. The partition of India in 1947 resulted in the formation of two nations, India and Pakistan. With 70 years since the independence, a special film and exhibition are being created for the project to reflect and document the real stories told by Birmingham residents who experienced the hardship, life challenges and outcomes of the partition. Led by the team of journalists from DESIblitz.com, the multi-award winning online British Asian magazine and working with volunteers from across the city, the project focuses on capturing the first-hand experiences of those who came to Birmingham owing to India’s declaration of independence. The project began in February and aims to finish in September 2017. The stories collected will be used to create a permanent film archive that will be made freely available to current and future generations via DESIblitz.com and the Library of Birmingham. Aidem Digital, a Birmingham based Community Interest Company (CIC) has been recognised as a leading social enterprise in this year’s RBS SE100 annual snapshot of 2014, with an incredible growth percentage of 173%. The RBS SE100 Index is an online listing of social ventures, ranked and scored according to their growth and social impact. The live market intelligence platform is designed to provide a substantial data resource for investors, commissioners and policymakers as they seek to understand the landscape of the social economy and identify top performers across the UK. In the annual data snapshot for 2014, registered social enterprises in the West Midlands show an average growth of 50% and a total combined turnover of £1.2 billion. The West Midlands accounts for 6% of the total registered Index users, with 70 social enterprises on the Index in the region. Aidem Digital CIC has been recognised for it's commitment to growth and has won the Social Enterprise West Midlands Profit Award. This award recognises Aidem Digital as a social enterprise with a strong commitment to grow and develop its business. The award was sponsored by Anthony Collins Solicitors, who were really impressed by Aidem’s drive to strengthen its business and social impact. The inaugural Asian Media Awards took place at the Hilton Deansgate hotel in Manchester on 31st October 2013, celebrating and recognising the hard work and efforts of Asian media professionals in the UK. With digital media being a very important platform to deliver news and entertainment today, the Digital category at the Asian Media Awards played a pivotal role to recognise that DESIblitz.com had the content and quality required to be deserving of the accolade. Objective: To digitally film, edit and deliver videos which can be used by SEWM to publicise and market their annual Social Finance Fair events. Social Enterprise West Midlands (SEWM) was launched in 2007 to improve understanding and support for social enterprises. Since that time SEWM has developed as a regional network with over 400 members. It's primary purpose is to act as an advocate for social enterprise so that awareness, understanding, visibility, sustainability and growth of the sector is improved. SEWMS's role is to raise awareness and understanding of social enterprise, inform and influence social enterprise policy, champion ‘Social Enterprise: The Time is Now’ and facilitate networking, knowledge exchange and collaborative working opportunities. Local authorities are being challenged in terms of the economic climate and the need to be innovative with their services. Children’s Centres managed by local authorities are under threat of closure. This project for Worcestershire County Council shows such innovation. Aidem Digital CIC in partnership with My Time CIC were commissioned to help produce an online solution to address specific aspects of Children’s Centre queries. Including Domestic Abuse, Post-Natal Depression and addressing popular questions asked by parents in relation to young children. REQUIREMENT Worcestershire currently has 34 Sure Start Children’s Centres which offer a range of services for parents/carers with children aged 0–4 years and parents to be. Worcestershire County Council provides support via its Family Information Service (FIS) and Parent Partnership Service (PPS). However, access to services can sometimes be difficult for children, young people and families living in rural areas of Worcestershire which impacts most heavily on low-income families. Client: My Time CIC Brief: Produce a film about Men and Mental Health, which conveys the issues faced by men with interviews of real service users. Objective: To raise awareness of Men's Mental Health issues in the film using a unique approach which delivers factual information in a powerful and thought-provoking manner. My Time a pioneering provider of mental health services in Birmingham requested Aidem Digital to assist them in making a film to highlight the issues related specifically to men and mental health. The film needed to portray clearly the issues faced by men that lead to mental health and affect them subsequently. The key aim of the film was to raise awareness and be used as an education tool. The first stage for this process was to work closely with real male service users at My Time who had suffered episodes of mental health and those who still were in this unfortunate state. Client: My Time CIC Brief: Produce a film about My Time, which gave an overview of their services especially for men, in line in the 'Voices of Change' project. Objective: To raise the awareness of My Time brand using the film to indicate it's passion and dedication to men's mental health with evidence from service users. Aidem Digital was commissioned to produce a unique, effective and powerful video film for My Time CIC. The aim of the video was to capture and produce real messages from real service users talking about mental health and how services provided by My Time address their needs. The services in particular are related to those provided for men from different cultures and backgrounds, a specialist area managed by My Time. The media team from Aidem Digital worked closely with My Time and a number of service user men to conduct filmed interviews about their experiences of mental health problems, how they cope, and what My Time services mean for them.
